Marin Pollock

Marin began her synchro career at the age of 12 in Calgary. She swam competitively at the provincial, national and international level. Marin loved working with her team to reach their goals. Once graduating high school Marin moved to Toronto and is currently studying public relations at Humber College. This will be Marin’s second year coaching and she is very excited to show how rewarding the sport can be to new young swimmers.

Laura Steacy

13-15 FINA Coach and 13-15 Provincial Co-Coach

Laura has been coaching with OSSC since September 2011.  She has experience coaching High Performance, Athletes With a Disability, and Novice. She is thrilled to be returning to the High Performance program for the 2016-2017 season while still staying involved in the 13-15 provincial stream team.

Laura swam at OSSC for 10 years, then moved to Montreal, Quebec where she swam on the National Team for 6 additional years before retiring from the team in 2009.  She swam an additional 2 seasons for McGill University before hanging up her noseclips in 2011, only to begin swimming synchro again for the OSSC masters in 2014.

Laura holds a BSc from McGill, a MSc from the University of Toronto and is a PhD candidate in the Exercise Science department at U of T.  She is specializing in behavioural sport science and has conducted research into the coach-athlete relationship for her Masters degree.  She is currently a part of the research team at U of T’s Concussion lab and is partnering with Synchro Ontario to research concussions in synchro for her doctoral dissertation. Laura also provides mental skills coaching for athletes of all sports through her new business, Mind 2 Body Performance Consulting.

 

Karla Rodriguez

From Mexican origins but Canadian by choice and living in Toronto since 2007, Karla brings with her 17 years of Synchro Swimming experience as an athlete. As a member of the Mexican National Team A (1997-2001), she achieved the Bronze Medal in the team event at the Winnipeg 1999 Pan Am Games and 10th place in the team event at the preliminary round of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Once her Synchro career as an athlete ended, Karla moved into teaching Yoga and brings with her over 13 years of experience and holds a Yoga Alliance certification. She serves as OSSC’s yoga consultant for summer camps and during the regular season. Karla did have a short tenure as an assistant coach in Mexico where her athletes achieved 1st place in Solo and 2nd place in Duet at the National Championships. She is a certified lifeguard and is working on her NCCP Introduction to Competition level. Karla has decided to continue her development as a coach and share her learnings and experiences with new generations of swimmers.

Jeanine Enns

Jeanine_Enns_pic-300x300Jeanine started swimming with OSSC at the age of 11, swimming at both the provincial and national level.  This is her sixth year with the club, and her third year leading a team.  Her favourite part of coaching is watching swimmers improve over the course of a season.  She is working towards being a certified lifeguard and always brings positivity and enthusiasm to every practice.

Jaclyn Tarnoweckyj – Ballet & Flexibility Expert

Jaclyn is an enthusiastic performer, choreographer and dedicated teacher. She began her career in Toronto, Ontario with Sean Boutilier Academy of Dance. Throughout her training at the Academy, she was able to study all genres of dance. She has successfully attained her Cecchetti Advanced I Diploma, as well as her RAD Intermediate Certificate. She has also achieved her teaching certificates where she attains her Cecchetti Associate Diploma from the Cecchetti Society of Canada and her Performing Arts Educators of Canada full membership in Ballet. Jaclyn is as well, a certified adjudicator through International Academy of Dance Adjudicators and Professional Adjudicator’s Alliance. Jaclyn is a graduate of Ryerson Polytechnic University, in Toronto Ontario. There, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance. She has choreographed many award winning competitive pieces for many studios in Ontario. She had the opportunity to choreograph an award winning routine for Miss Teen Canada, where she was able to win her talent and title as Miss Teen Canada International 2008.  Jaclyn enjoys teaching at Sean Boutilier Academy of Dance. Her passion for dance exceeds limits, and she is able to share her love of dance with others. She began working with OSSC at the 2015’s High Performance Camp and started working with our high performance athletes last season. This season she will take on the ballet and flexibility training for our morning teams.

Glen Steacy – Speed Swimming Coach

Glen is a former college swimmer who has returned to the sport as a coach. He began swimming in London, Ontario at the age of 6 with the London Aquatic Club. He swam at LAC for 13 years, three of them as a National Qualifier. He was Junior National Champion in 1996 in the 1500m free. Glen received a swimming scholarship to St. John’s University in New York City, where he swam in the NCAA Division 1 for four years while studying Business. He was Team Captain in his senior year. Glen began his coaching career with McGill University Masters Swimming, coaching there for four seasons and producing Provincial and National record holders. He was in charge of the program for his last two years, while also serving as the Assistant Coach for the McGill University varsity swim team. He is a certified Level 1 swim coach with the NCCP. Glen is currently entering his third year with Markham Aquatic Club where he has moved into the position of Head Age Group Coach.

Dr. Bryon Weinberg is a graduate of the University of Hawaii where he attended on a tennis scholarship, and the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. In addition, he is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and co-founder of Athletic Movement Assessment (AMA).

As a chiropractor specializing in sports performance at High Point Wellness Centre, Dr. Weinberg has been able to help athletes from all different sports achieve their goals through treatment, rehabilitation, and pre-habilitation programs.

Dr. Weinberg has worked with numerous amateur and professional athletes, including former top 10 world ranked tennis player Maria Kirilenko, many Toronto Argonauts players, and North American Boxing Association champion Stephan Boyd.

Anne-Sophie Pelchat


Anne-Sophie11-12 Provincial Coach

Anne-Sophie started the sport of synchronized swimming at the age of 8 in her native Montreal. Very quickly she moved to the provincial level with Synchro Laval and started her love story with the sport. At the age of 11, she jumped to the national level and attended a sport school which allowed her and her teammates to maximize their training. At the age of 15, she moved to Montreal Synchro to swim with duet partner Marie-Pier Boudreau-Gagnon and for the next 3 years the team was national champion and won gold at international meets.  In 2001, she hung her bathing suit, nose plug and goggles and began her coaching career and to attend university. Over the years, she has coached many athletes from all levels and the 2016-2017 season will be her second at OSSC. When not at the pool, Anne-Sophie is either with her beautiful Rottweiler Bronx, running her dog walking business or dabbling with 2 or 3 other professional projects. She has her NCCP Competitive Development level and is a certified lifeguard.
