Secretary – Bio

Merideth Muscat, Secretary
Length of time on the Board:

2017-18 will be my first season as a board member

Length of time in OSSC:

We are in the 3rd year with the club.
Program in which your daughter/son participates: Provincial 13U
Why you want to be a part of the Board?

Our family is relatively new to synchronized swimming and I joined the Board to gain a better understanding of how our club functions and I wanted to be a part of the group who’s mandate is to make the club the best it can be so it can to offer the best experiences to our swimmers.
Background: Professionally, I am a Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner and I use the passion I have for my work, and for caring for others, to improving the quality of all the experiences I am fortunate to be a part of.
What’s your goal for the year ahead?

My goal for this year on the Board is to meet all of the expectations of my role and support each member of the Board.  I also hope to learn about the Board and its activities and be able to support our team of swimmers.

Volunteer Coordinator – Bio

Jodi Ostroff, Volunteer Coordinator
Length of time on the Board:

2017-18 will be my first season as a board member

Length of time in OSSC:

Going into our 7th season
Program in which your daughter/son participates: Provincial 13-15

Why you want to be a part of the Board?

My daughter Pollina has been swimming with OSSC since she was 8 years old and I believe that participation in a sport is vital to the mental and physical health/well-being and development of girls. I would like to be a part of the OSSC board so that I can support the club and the sport that gives my daughter and other girls the opportunity to swim!
Background: I was a synchronized swimmer in my youth in Montreal and love the sport because it requires so many skills: strength, endurance, flexibility, artistry, musicality, a good memory, the ability to count to the music – all while upside down holding your breath much of the time! If my work schedule allowed it, I’d join a masters synchro team! Maybe some day……

I am an audiologist and work for a hearing implant company. I have two children – Pollina, 14 and Leo, 12.

What’s your goal for the year ahead?

To ensure every swimmer’s family understands their value as a volunteer for the club and has positive volunteer experiences.

President – Bio

Francis Li, President
Length of time on the Board:

This is my first year
Length of time in OSSC:

This is our 5th season
Program in which your daughter/son participates: HP 13-15
Why you want to be a part of the Board?

I wanted to more directly participate in a sport that means so much to my daughter, Alicia and being on the Board gives me an opportunity to do that in a way that also compliments my professional development.
Background: I’m in a leadership position with a medium sized technology company so I’ve had the opportunity to run many large projects & initiatives with large, cross-functional teams. I’ve also served on the Board of the Lambton Kingsway Before & After School Program, which is also not for profit. On a personal note, not only am I NOT a synchronized swimmer but I actually can’t swim!
What’s your goal for the year ahead?

There were two areas of feedback from a membership survey conducted earlier in the year that I’d like to make an impact in: transparency and fundraising flexibility. We have specific tactics to make progress in these areas but the true measure of success will be if our membership feels we’ve improved. We will measure our progress against the results of next year’s survey.

Communications Lead – Bio

Wendy Seed, Communications Lead
Length of time on the Board:

This is my second year
Length of time in OSSC:

This is our 9th season
Program in which your daughter/son participates: HP 13-15
Why you want to be a part of the Board?

I joined the board initially just to help out wherever I could but naturally fell into communications. I do think I can help in my own small way with my expertise – we do great things at OSSC and we need to communicate them. I also believe in being fully engaged in any organization with which I’m affiliated – whether it’s for work or not. If it also benefits our wonderful athletes then that makes me very happy!
Background: I am so not athletic and I got my daughter swimming at just 5 months old because I was never taught how to swim properly. As for me, I think I have a lot to offer both in terms of ensuring the family/parent viewpoint is always considered in any major decisions we make. In my work, my job is to always keep the consumer in mind in order to engage with them effectively. I guess I look at my role on the board the same way.
What’s your goal for the year ahead?

To successfully promote all of OSSC’s programs and successes both internally – to parents and families – and externally – to the local community and broader synchro community. To do this, we need to be really good at communicating, communicating, communicating!
